6:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025

• Location: The starting point for the run will be at 624 S. Cedar St., following the scenic route along the Wesley Heights Greenway. It’s just under a mile away from the Convention Center. Participants have the option to either join a group departing from the Convention Center at 6:15 AM for a communal walk to the starting line or proceed directly to the start line themselves. Meet at the College Street entrance to the Convention Center (just outside of the registration area). Get ready to kickstart your day with an invigorating run in the heart of the city!

• Ceremony: Wednesday at noon in front of the race registration booth

Our 43rd Annual AVS 5k Run, the oldest professional Society run on our planet, will be held with our AVS 71st International Symposium & Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina. With your entry fee, you will receive a run t-shirt, race number, and awards.

The race will be held on Wednesday morning at a time that will allow runners to attend the first sessions. Stop by the race registration booth by Tuesday, September 23rd, to pick up your t-shirt and number, a map of the course, and find organizational details for Wednesday morning. The awards ceremony will be held at the Run registration area on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.

Create a Team

Don’t forget to put together a team to compete in our CORPORATE RACE and DIVISIONS AND GROUPS RACE. Each team representing a corporate entity (university, unemployed, research organization, manufacturer, etc.) or Division/Group must have at least 3 team members to qualify.

Times are handicapped by age and sex. To enter your team, please email your roster, team name, and affiliation to the Race Director (bridget_rogers@avs.org) before noon on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Please make sure each team member has registered for the race.

Sign Up Early to Pick Your T-Shirt Size

Please note that we assign t-shirts in the order in which race registrations are received. Those who register before July 14, 2025, are guaranteed to receive their desired size, so please be sure to register ASAP!

Important Note

Due to limited options in Charlotte, our 5k Run course will require that you cross some residential streets, and these streets will not be closed for the event, so runners are expected to proceed with utmost caution and remain within the crosswalk while crossing.
